Fareed Zakaria: Restoring the American Dream – CNN Special

I was watching CNN tonight and came across this special that I think everyone should watch called Fareed Zakaria: Restoring the American Dream. They do a really great job of illustrating how the world economy has changed over the past 150 years and clearly shows how the United States isn’t number 1 anymore in several important areas. It’s clear how the rest of the world is catching up to us at an alarming rate. The scariest part is there is overwhelming evidence that the United States is basically teetering at the edge of a cliff right now. Some of the special documents cold hard facts that you just can’t refute. Other parts of the special caution how the United States is setting itself up to make the same mistake of other great world empires. Either way you look at it, we’re in trouble. Here are some bone-chilling stats about the United States: – The United States is the fourth most competitive country in the world economically. – The United States only the fifth best country in which to run a business. – America’s enrollment rate for elementary school ranks 79th in the world. – The United States is 12th in the percentage of college graduates among rich countries. – America’s 15-year-olds are ranked 19th in science and 24th in math. – The United States infrastructure ranks 23rd. – The United States is 41st in the world on infant mortality – The United States is 49th in the world in life expectancy. – The United States ranks behind Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, and Canada in social mobility across generations....

Two Weeks In Costa Rica

Today marks the middle of my two week trip to Costa Rica. It’s really been an amazing trip so far and its reminded me why I moved here to begin with. With the exception of having rain everyday, despite it being the dry season, it’s been a near perfect trip. When you get away from the city, Costa Rica is truly an amazing country and somewhere everyone should visit. Costa Rican Wedding The main reason for booking this trip was to goto my business partner’s (Adam Small) wedding at Hotel Martino. Since Adam and I have a lot of mutual friends, it was just as much a reunion as it was a wedding. The weekend started off with a party Friday night at Time Out Tavern, a local bar that I used to frequent a lot when I lived here. The wedding was Saturday afternoon; the after-party went into the wee hours of the morning. Mother nature decided it was time for a torrential downpour just as the ceremony was about to start. However, thanks to some quick work by the wedding planners, the wedding was moved indoors and everything went off without a hitch. It was a really great day and I wish Adam and his new bride the best in their new life together. Manuel Antonio On Sunday morning, after the wedding, it was time to switch gears and head out to Manuel Antonio. I own part of a condo in a complex called Pacifico Colonial that I purchased when I still lived in Costa Rica. The idea was to use it on the weekends, or whenever...

WordPress Themes Wrap-Up – Month Two

Since it’s March 1st, it’s time for another WordPress Themes wrap-up article. I love this time of the month because it allows me to reflect my goals and make sure I’m on pace. Review January Goals: The first thing I want to do is refer back to this post and review the goals I set for February. In reviewing my goals, I didn’t accomplish everything 100%, but I did pretty good. – Add 60 themes to wpthemes.net and themesforwp.com – Unfortunately I didn’t accomplish this goal 100%, but I got about half way there. I was able to add over 30 themes to each site. Both sites will cross the 100 themes mark later this week. – Add at least one theme per day to wordpressthemes.com – I accomplished this goal and now have over 300 themes on wordpressthemes.com. – Create a new design and install it – I failed at this goal miserably, but with good reason. I spent a good part of the month evaluating my traffic before creating a new design. I now have a completed design and the programmers will start coding it this week. – Get two high quality links – I accomplished this goal by getting 3 high quality links. I get about one email per week from someone wanting to add their themes to my site. I always agree to do it if they add a link to me. It worked like a charm 3 times this month. – Sell more themes than the previous month – Since we had a decent jump in search rankings, it was kind of cheating a...
