New Theme For My Blog – Thesis by DIY Themes

For those of you who have been keeping up with my blog, you might remember a post I made a few months ago about WordPress Themes. It’s a website I purchased for my new company, Terran Marketing, and I’ve been learning a lot about themes since then. In fact, I’ve reviewed close to 200 themes now and it’s been a real eye opener. It’s become very clear to me that one theme is heads and shoulders above the rest – Thesis by DIY Themes. Thesis is a fully customizable theme that is installed on over 30,000 websites; I’m now one of those websites. In my case I wanted a 2 column layout with my content column at 600px and my sidebar at 300px. I also wanted a very clean look with 2 full posts along with excerpts for 8 more posts. With Thesis it was a snap. The great thing about this theme is that I can grow with it as my blog continues to evolve. I plan on adding a lot more content to my blog about SEO, business, and marketing. Normally I would be searching for a new theme each time my needs changed. With Thesis it’s just a few clicks to change things up. The other great thing about the Thesis theme is its built in SEO options. Normally I install the All In One SEO plugin on all my sites, but with Thesis it becomes obsolete. The only downside is now I need to go back though my old posts and update my SEO data before I can remove All In One from my blog....

What the heck is Editz

Some of you might have noticed the little blue “Editz” button on each of my posts and wondered what the heck this is. Well, Editz is actually a company that I’ve invested in that allows copyediting of web pages. It’s a pretty amazing application and even integrates directly into WordPress. The best part is that it’s free for personal bloggers and can really add a level of professionalism to blogs and other content. I don’t know about you, but I’m horrible at copyediting my own content. If it’s something I’ve written then I often glance over the errors. For instance I’m habitual at using you instead of your or you’re all the time. I’m thinking “your” as I type, but it just comes out “you”. Then, when I read over the content I often glance over it again. So, I’m soliciting the help of all my readers to copyedit any errors you see on my blog using Editz. I know I’m biased, but I also think you should also try it out on your own blog or content site. It’s free and very easy to...

DirecTV and NFL Sunday Ticket

We just had DirecTV installed with the NFL Sunday Ticket package. I’m sure you’ve seen all the commercials for their “5 months free” package and that’s what we went with. It’s a pretty good deal when you consider NFL Sunday Ticket goes for about $300 each year alone. We also have their Premier package for the next five months which comes with every single movie channel they have. I really think that DirecTV is the best service out there. Their hardware is by far the best in the business. Their box and guide are very easy to use and operate very quickly. They also have an amazing selection of HD channels along with every imaginable sports channel. The main selling point for me though is the NFL Sunday Ticket. While I’m not sure how them having the exclusive rights to NFL Sunday Ticket isn’t a monopoly, the truth is I’d rather have DirecTv anyway. When you add in the NFL Sunday Ticket to go thing they have now, it’s just awesome. I spent the entire day Sunday on the sofa watching all the NFL games, mostly via the RedZone channel. I also had another game going via my laptop along with my Yahoo stat tracker for my fantasy football game. I’m 2-2 so far this year, but give myself almost no chance at making the playoffs. I had two starting receivers who had a total of 1.7 points between them, I have no depth on my bench, and can only win by luck. Unless something major happens I’ll be on the outside looking in come week...

iPad – What a neat toy

So, I’m sitting here on the sofa and writing this blog from my iPad. I just picked one up about a week ago, which was months longer than anyone thought it would take. The truth is I’m a little compulsive when it comes to technology purchases; it’s even worse when you toss an Apple product into the equation. I have just about every Apple product there is – and the newest version to boot. My embarrassing list of Apple products I own: 15″ MacBook Pro 3 = MacMini’s IPhone 4 MacBook Air Mac LED monitor IPad The reason I waited to get the iPad was because it wouldn’t play all formats of video. I’ve been through trying to convert all my videos to iTunes before and it is just too big of a pain. However, VLC just came out for the iPad and that sealed the deal. So far I’ve been using it as a laptop replacement at night from the sofa and bed. It’s also handy for long bathroom trips. The apps for the iPad are quite impressive and the screen quality is amazing. So far I rate it an excellent...
