I’ve written about the CSA we joined before, but I wanted to give an update now that we are several weeks into the fall season. We joined the CSA that Quail Hollow Farm offers, a farm about 50 miles north of Las Vegas, and have been enjoying our fresh fruits and veggies each Thursday since then. In fact, I find Thursday’s to be my favorite day of the week now. It’s fun anticipating what delicious food is going to show up at our doorstep.
This week we ended up with fresh spinach, radishes, squash, string beans, beets, peppers, and more. The result tonight was a wonderful plate of fresh cooked organic veggies (and some left overs from last night’s Thai run). My wife used up most of the spinach and green beans tonight and it was sooo good. It was the first time we had spinach in our basket, which has become one of my favorite foods to eat. It’s packed with lots of vitamins and minerals; definitely one of natures wonder foods. It’s easy to cook as well. Just a little bit of olive oil, garlic, and a frying pan and your good to go. It’s also great raw in salads.
The main reason I’m writing about our CSA tonight is to encourage everyone to look into their local CSA. This is the time of year when CSA’s are signing up people for their winter share and it would be a perfect time to jump on www.localharvest.org and enquire about your CSA. It’s an opportunity to support your local farm while doing something good for yourself at the same time!
